Rigorous Education Research

Open Development and Education was founded upon the key principle that change and innovation in the education sector should be founded on evidence. Particularly in the fast-changing, trend-driven EdTech sector, we work to produce reliable, actionable bases of evidence that inform effective strategy and programming.

Our focus on methodological rigor and appropriate ethical frameworks empower research participants to become partners in and owners of knowledge development around educational development in low- and middle-income countries. We specialise in and advise clients and partners on, a range of research aspects, including:

  • Design-based implementation research
  • Mixed-methods research
  • Participatory research
  • Actionable evidence use

Some key programmes demonstrating our breadth of research expertise include our involvement in the EdTech Hub consortium, our two-year study on TVET in sub-Saharan Africa for the German Office for International Cooperation in Education and Training (GOVET), and our mapping of key decision-makers around girls’ education in emergencies for Equal Measures 2030.
